According to mom, this is the first of the cool neighborhood eateries that you see all over the place, these nifty small restaurants that all my friends in San Francisco seem to know about.  Fair enough, but who cares.  I’d be innately suspicious of anything that seems to elicit unanimously positive reactions from all my acquaintances whom I talk to about it; there’s this vague unease that you might be walking into some snotty
uber-hip joint.  I hate snotty.

Firefly’s not snotty, it’s good.  Even the musician in the corner was unobtrusive, the staff were cool, and the food was great.  And the glowy metal firefly out front was a nice touch.  Even if we did freak out the waiter by telling him that the giant wooden scoop hanging from the wall (a work of art, apparently) was reminiscent of the massive ladles my parents used in Switzerland in the 1970s to empty out the septic tank.  Didn’t faze
him a bit.

Oh, and there’s boatloads of parking.
