John’s Eats and Trips

This isn’t a food blog.  I do like good food, though.  Can’t stand restaurant critics, though, so if I don’t have anything nice to say, I’m not going to say it.

Nor is it a travel blog.  Or a drinks blog, for the same reason as above.  I like good drinks as well.

No attempt has been made at all-inclusiveness, objectivity, relevance, grammatical integrity for the being have done writing postings, nor propur speling.

Rather, it’s a place for me to write down great experiences that I enjoy and would like to both note for myself and share with others.

Karin and I are lucky enough to be able to visit some amazing places, and to sample delicacies and experiences that I never would have thought of before I realized in my early twenties that there was an awesome, exciting, bizarre, delicious, beautiful world out there to explore and grab by the cojones.  It occurs to me that many people in this great big world never will have the opportunity to eat in an outstanding Parisian bistro, drink the perfect vodka martini, see a beautiful sunset in the Andes, or try roast guinea pig (at least in the case of the latter, they’re none the worse off for it.)  In much the same way, I suspect I will never have the chance to engage in some awe-inspiring activities and delicious foods and sights that are almost mundane for some of our fellow human beings, but which are still unexplored or unattainable mysteries for me.

I have a list of things to try and see that’s as long as my arm, and I hope you do too.  Even if you never get through more than a fraction of it, you’ve at least seen that there is something over the horizon, and that’s already a lot.

As for this journal?  Just consider it as a source of ideas for your list.
